Sähköstimulaatiota, known in English as electrical stimulation, refers to the use of electrical impulses to cause physiological responses in the body. This can range from muscle contraction to nerve activation and pain relief. It is a widely used therapeutic modality in various fields, including physical therapy, rehabilitation, and pain management.

In physical therapy, sähköstimulaatiota is often employed to strengthen weakened muscles, prevent atrophy after injury or surgery, or to assist with motor control retraining. Different types of electrical stimulation exist, such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain relief, functional electrical stimulation (FES) to restore function in paralyzed limbs, and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) for muscle re-education and strengthening.
