Rødspidsen

Rødspidsen is the Danish name for the common dab, a species of flatfish belonging to the flounder family. Scientifically known as *Limanda limanda*, it is a commercially important fish found in the North Atlantic and Baltic Sea. Rødspidsen typically inhabits sandy or muddy bottoms, often at depths ranging from 10 to 50 meters.

The fish is characterized by its elongated, oval body shape and both eyes are located on the right side of its head. The upper side is usually brownish with a mottled pattern of darker spots, while the underside is white. Rødspidsen is a relatively small flatfish, with adults typically reaching lengths of around 20 to 30 centimeters, though larger specimens can be found.

Its diet consists mainly of small invertebrates such as crustaceans, polychaete worms, and mollusks. Rødspidsen plays a role in the marine ecosystem as both a predator and prey for larger fish. It is a popular target for commercial fisheries in Denmark and other European countries, often marketed as a white fish with a mild flavor and flaky texture. Recreational anglers also target Rødspidsen, particularly in coastal waters.
