Rödpositiv

Rödpositiv is a type of social democratic party found primarily in Sweden. The term translates to "red-positive" in English, reflecting the party's focus on social and economic policies promoting equality and collective welfare.

Rödpositiv parties emerged in the early 21st century in response to the dominant parties within Sweden's social democratic spectrum. These new entities were formed by individuals who sought to revitalize and strengthen social democracy in Sweden by promoting a more progressive and combative stance on issues such as income inequality, labor rights, and environmental protection.

Characterized by a strong emphasis on grassroots activism and direct democracy, rödpositiv parties often embrace participatory and direct decision-making models, in contrast to the more traditional top-down structures of established social democratic parties. This puts more power in the hands of the party's membership and emphasizes the involvement of ordinary citizens in the decision-making process.

Rödpositiv parties frequently cross party lines, working with non- affiliated parties and social movement organizations to advance shared goals and policies. As such, they sometimes adopt an anti-party-party approach or views critical of the established order, bridging party divides and allowing for cooperation across traditional party lines.

A notable example of a rödpositiv party is the socialist alternative, Vänsterpartiet (The Left Party). This has put forward comprehensive proposals that aim at high investment in public goods, that would strengthen the social fabric and collective well-being, and bind working people with more than adequate equitable and tax-supported policies, though not similarly to all sides in cause.
