Résekzárást

Résekzárást is a Hungarian term that translates to "sealing of gaps" or "crack sealing" in English. It refers to a construction and maintenance technique used to fill and seal cracks in various surfaces, primarily roads and pavements. The primary purpose of réskzárást is to prevent water and other incompressible materials from penetrating the underlying layers of the pavement.

Water ingress is a major cause of pavement deterioration. When water seeps into cracks, it can freeze and expand during colder temperatures, widening the cracks and leading to further damage. It can also weaken the base and sub-base layers of the pavement, reducing its structural integrity. By sealing these gaps, réskzárást effectively prevents this moisture intrusion, thereby extending the lifespan of the pavement and reducing the need for more extensive and costly repairs.

The process typically involves cleaning out the existing cracks to remove debris, dirt, and vegetation. Then, a specialized sealing material, often a hot-poured asphalt-based sealant, is applied into the cleaned cracks. The sealant cures to form a flexible barrier that can withstand the movement of the pavement due to traffic loads and temperature fluctuations. Different types of sealants exist, chosen based on factors such as the climate, the type of pavement, and the expected traffic volume.
