Réprimés

Réprimés is the plural form of réprimé, used in French to describe people or groups who suffer repression. As an adjective, réprimé means subdued or suppressed; as a noun, réprimés designates those subjected to repression—often in political or social contexts. The term is commonly used in political science, history, and human rights discourse to name victims of state or power structures.

Repression refers to measures that limit rights or freedoms and maintain authority through coercion. Mechanisms include censorship of media and expression, surveillance, arbitrary arrests and detention, exile or forced displacement, harassment, intimidation, torture, and extrajudicial killings. Political dissidents, activists, journalists, labor organizers, ethnic or religious minorities, and other opinion groups are frequently described as réprimés when they face such measures.

Historically and in contemporary context, réprimés appear across regimes and conflicts, from authoritarian and totalitarian states to militarized security frameworks in various regions.
