Rânca

Rânca is a mountain resort village in Novaci commune, Gorj County, Romania. It is situated in the Parâng Mountains along the Transalpina road (DN67C), a high-altitude route crossing the Southern Carpathians. The settlement sits at approximately 1,500 meters above sea level, within a landscape of pine forests and alpine meadows offering panoramic views.

Access to Rânca is primarily via Transalpina road from Novaci; the road is known for its winding route and seasonal closures due to weather. There are also regional roads linking to nearby towns.

In terms of tourism, it is a mid-size mountain resort offering winter sports including skiing and snow activities, as well as summer activities such as hiking and mountain biking. The area hosts accommodations including hotels, guesthouses, and chalets, plus dining and shopping services.

Rânca serves as a base for exploring the Parâng Mountains; it forms part of the network of Carpathian mountain resorts in Gorj County and is one of the key points on the Transalpina route.
