Rytmihäiriötoimenpide

Rytmihäiriötoimenpide refers to a medical procedure performed to correct an abnormal heart rhythm, known as an arrhythmia. These procedures are designed to restore a regular and efficient heartbeat when the heart's natural electrical system is malfunctioning.

The most common type of rytmihäiriötoimenpide is catheter ablation. This minimally invasive procedure involves inserting thin, flexible tubes called catheters through a blood vessel, usually in the groin, up to the heart. Once in position, the tip of the catheter delivers radiofrequency energy or cryotherapy (cold) to small areas of heart tissue that are causing the abnormal rhythm. This targeted treatment creates scar tissue, which blocks the faulty electrical signals and prevents them from disrupting the heart's normal rhythm.

Another type of procedure is the implantation of an electronic device, such as a pacemaker or an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD). A pacemaker is used for slow heart rhythms (bradycardia), helping to maintain an appropriate heart rate. An ICD is used for dangerously fast or irregular rhythms (tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation) and can deliver an electrical shock to restore a normal rhythm if a life-threatening arrhythmia occurs.
