Ryhmäyhtenäisyys, often translated as group cohesion, refers to the degree to which members of a group are attracted to each other and motivated to stay in the group. It is a fundamental concept in social psychology and organizational behavior, influencing group performance, satisfaction, and longevity. High group cohesion is characterized by a strong sense of belonging, mutual trust, and a shared commitment to group goals.

Several factors contribute to the development of group cohesion. These include group size, where smaller groups tend to be more cohesive, and the level of similarity among members in terms of values, attitudes, and backgrounds. Shared experiences, particularly those that involve overcoming challenges or achieving success together, can also foster strong bonds. The effects of group cohesion are multifaceted. Cohesive groups often exhibit higher levels of communication, cooperation, and mutual support.
