Ryhmätrajektoriamallit, often translated as group trajectory models, are a class of statistical models used to analyze and understand the movement patterns of multiple entities, such as animals, vehicles, or even individuals within a social group. These models aim to identify common paths or trajectories that a group of agents tends to follow. The core idea is to represent the collective movement as a set of underlying, unobserved trajectories that individuals may deviate from.

These models are particularly useful when individual movements are not perfectly synchronized or when there are unobserved factors influencing the group's behavior. They allow researchers to infer typical group behaviors and understand how individual agents contribute to or deviate from these general patterns. This can be applied in various fields, including ecology for studying herd behavior, transportation for analyzing traffic flow, and social sciences for understanding crowd dynamics.

A key component of ryhmätrajektoriamallit is the probabilistic framework used to describe the movement.
