Rundlaufprüfungen, often translated as runout tests or circularity tests, are a crucial aspect of metrology and quality control in manufacturing. They are used to measure the deviation of a rotating surface from its ideal circular or cylindrical form. This deviation is commonly referred to as "runout" or "wobble." The purpose of a Rundlaufprüfung is to ensure that components rotate smoothly and accurately, which is essential for the proper functioning of many mechanical systems.

These tests are typically performed using specialized measuring instruments such as dial indicators, dial test indicators, or more advanced digital probes. The workpiece is usually mounted on a precision spindle or a lathe, allowing it to rotate freely.
