Rumstemperaturkondensation

Rumstemperaturkondensation is the process by which a vapor in air changes into a liquid at temperatures close to ordinary room conditions. It happens when the air becomes saturated with water vapor or is cooled to its dew point, or when vapor pressure increases enough that liquid droplets form on surfaces.

The key underlying concept is dew point: the temperature at which air, given its current humidity, can no longer hold all the water vapor as vapor and begins to condense into liquid. Relative humidity, air temperature, and surface temperature together determine whether condensation occurs. Condensation often begins on cooler surfaces that contact warmer, moist air, or when humid air is rapidly cooled or compressed.

Common phenomena attributed to room-temperature condensation include dew on windows, fogging of glass or mirrors after a hot shower, and water droplets on walls or electronics in damp rooms. While water condensation is a natural part of the water cycle, excessive room-temperature condensation can lead to mold growth, material damage, and corrosion, especially in buildings, electronics, and greenhouses.

Management of room-temperature condensation focuses on controlling humidity and temperature: improving ventilation, using dehumidifiers, insulating and warming surfaces, sealing leaks, and increasing air circulation to reduce saturation and keep surface temperatures above the local dew point. In industrial and laboratory settings, condensation control is crucial for product quality and process reliability, while in sustainable design it can support passive moisture management and water-harvesting concepts.
