Rueuel

Rueuel is a town and commune in the fictional nation of Eloria, situated in the northern lowlands along the Rue River. It serves as the administrative center of the Rueuel municipality and had an estimated population of 9,800 in 2023. The town covers about 36 square kilometers and lies within a temperate climate zone with four distinct seasons.

The Rue River shapes the eastern edge of the town, while nearby farmland and mixed forests lie to the north and west. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and modest elevations, ranging roughly from 40 to 120 meters above sea level.

Historically, Rueuel is documented as Ruell in a 12th-century charter and developed as a market town during the medieval period. A fortified church and a small abbey were established in the 14th century. The arrival of the railway in 1882 spurred industrial growth, and postwar modernization shifted the economy toward services and tourism.

Rueuel is governed by a municipal council led by a mayor. The population is predominantly Rueuelan-speaking, with Elorian and English used in education and public life. The town has an aging demographic profile, with a median age in the late 40s.

Its economy relies on agriculture—cereals and dairy—alongside light manufacturing and local services. Tourism centers on heritage sites and riverside scenery. Rail service links Rueuel with a regional capital, and regional buses connect nearby towns; a small airfield serves seasonal traffic.

Cultural life centers on the annual Rueuel Days festival, featuring markets, music, and street performances. Notable landmarks include Rueuel Castle ruins, the Old Mill Museum, and St. Nicol’s Church. Education comprises two primary schools and a secondary school, with a public library serving residents.
