Rostec

Rostec State Corporation, commonly known as Rostec, is a Russian state-owned holding company established in 2007 by presidential decree to consolidate strategically important high-tech industries and accelerate the development of Russia's defense and civilian sectors. The corporation oversees a broad portfolio of enterprises across defense, aviation, electronics, information technology, medical technology, and other high-tech fields, with more than 700 subsidiaries and affiliates.

Rostec is owned by the Russian Federation and operates under government oversight. It is headed by Chief Executive Officer Sergey Chemezov, who also chairs the board of directors. The company reports to the Russian government and coordinates activities through ministries such as Industry and Trade.

Among its major holdings are companies involved in defense and dual-use technologies, including Kalashnikov Concern, Russian Helicopters, United Engine Corporation, and the state-controlled export arm Rosoboronexport, as well as the Radio-Electronic Technology (RET) and other electronics groups.

Rostec's mission is to promote the development of advanced technologies, support import substitution, modernize the industrial base, and increase Russia's export capacity in both civilian and defense sectors. It operates from Russia and partners internationally, subject to applicable export controls and regulatory restrictions.

Since its inception, Rostec has faced sanctions from Western countries in response to Russia's international actions, restricting technology transfers and some business activities with certain entities and countries. The corporation continues to adapt to evolving geopolitical and economic conditions while pursuing its development goals.
