RoHSnõudeid

RoHSnõudeid refers to the requirements of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive. This European Union directive, formally known as Directive 2011/65/EU, restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic equipment. The primary goal of RoHS is to protect human health and the environment from the potential harm caused by these substances.

The directive originally identified six restricted substances: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Over time, four additional substances have been added to the list: bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP). These phthalates were added in 2015 and became enforceable in 2019.

RoHS applies to a wide range of electrical and electronic equipment, including large and small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics, lighting equipment, electrical and electronic tools, toys, leisure and sports equipment, and medical devices. Manufacturers, importers, and distributors placing such products on the EU market must ensure compliance with RoHSnõudeid. This typically involves diligent supply chain management, material testing, and documentation to demonstrate that the restricted substances are not present above specified concentration limits. Non-compliance can lead to products being withdrawn from the market and significant penalties.
