Rillengen

Rillengen is a town and municipality in the Nordfjord Province of Veridia. Located in the Rill River valley, it lies about 40 kilometers north of Veridia City and covers an area of 42.6 square kilometers. The terrain comprises low hills, river flats, and oak forest; the climate is temperate with mild summers and cool winters.

Rillengen originated in the 12th century as a river market settlement. It developed around a bridge over the Rill River and prospered in the 18th and 19th centuries through textile production and milling. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century fostered industrial growth, while postwar modernization shifted the economy toward light manufacturing and services.

Today, the local economy includes manufacturing (notably machinery and components), logistics, and public services. The town serves as a regional service center for Nordfjord's rural hinterland. Major employers include Rillen Machinery and Nordfjord Logistics. The municipality maintains retail, health, and educational facilities.

Transport includes Rillengen railway station on the Veridia Central Network, a national road (Route 5), and seasonal ferry connections on the nearby river during high water. Veridia International Airport is about 60 km away.

As of 2023, Rillengen has roughly 12,400 residents. The population is predominantly Veridian-speaking, with small communities speaking Eslari and other languages. The town hosts the annual Rillengen Summer Days festival and preserves historical architecture in the Old Town, including St. Mark's Church from the 14th century. The Rillengen Park, a public green space, is a focal point for recreation.

Rillengen is governed by a municipal council of 21 members and a mayor. Local governance focuses on urban planning, schooling, and services for surrounding rural areas.
