Rikastusjäätmed

Rikastusjäätmed refers to the waste materials generated during the process of mineral enrichment, also known as ore dressing or beneficiation. This process involves separating valuable minerals from waste rock or gangue. The resulting residue after the valuable minerals have been extracted is termed tailings or rikastusjäätmed. These wastes typically consist of finely ground rock and mineral particles, often mixed with water used in the processing.

The composition of rikastusjäätmed varies greatly depending on the type of ore being processed and the methods used for enrichment. Common components include quartz, feldspar, carbonates, and sulfides, along with residual amounts of the targeted valuable minerals. Depending on the ore deposit, these wastes can also contain elevated concentrations of naturally occurring radioactive materials or heavy metals, which can pose environmental concerns if not managed properly.
