Riathan is a fictional coastal city-state and cultural-economic hub in the northern region of a fantasy continent. Located along the Riath Gulf, it features canal networks, stone quays, and a long tradition of maritime trade and guild governance.

The name Riathan likely derives from an early harbor dialect, with theories linking it to terms meaning "edge of the sea" or "harbor of legends." Historical records mention it from the early republic era.

Riathan's settlement began in the 9th century as seafaring clans established trade links. It grew into a merchant republic during the medieval period, prospering through shipyards, spices, and timber, and weathering sieges through fortified walls and defensive fleets.
