Rhineura
Rhineura is a monotypic genus of amphisbaenian reptiles in the family Rhineuridae, containing the single living species Rhineura floridana, commonly known as the Florida worm lizard. It is the only extant member of Rhineuridae, an ancient, primitive lineage within Amphisbaenia. The Florida worm lizard is endemic to the U.S. state of Florida, where it occupies sandy, well-drained soils across various habitats, including pine flatwoods, sandhills, scrub, and occasionally disturbed ground. It is a fossorial creature that spends most of its life underground, surfacing mainly after rainfall or during moist conditions.
