Revcom

Revcom is the shorthand for the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA (RCP), a small far-left political organization in the United States. Founded in 1975 by Bob Avakian, the party describes itself as carrying forward a "New Synthesis of Communism" that it says updates Marxism for contemporary conditions. The Revcom network operates a media and outreach apparatus, including the Revcom.org website (formerly Revcom.us) and the Revolution Club, which has local chapters and conducts public demonstrations in several cities.

The organization publishes essays, videos, and books that critique capitalism and U.S. imperialism and advocate for a socialist revolution aimed at establishing a communist society. Notable offerings include the film Why We Need a Revolution and a collection of Avakian’s writings compiled as BAsics. Revcom emphasizes internationalism and argues for the leadership of a vanguard party to guide a revolutionary movement, along with a focus on culture, education, and political mobilization as part of its program.

Ideologically, Revcom rejects reform within the existing capitalist system and promotes a complete overthrow of the state in favor of a socialist regime that would eventually advance toward communism. The group promotes the "New Synthesis of Communism" as its guiding theoretical framework and positions Avakian as the key leader and theorist of that synthesis.

Reception of Revcom varies. Because it operates largely outside mainstream political channels and maintains a relatively small footprint, it is often described in media and academic sources as a fringe or niche activist organization. It is, however, a persistent presence in online political discourse and street-level activism through the Revolution Club.
