Reumatoidná

Reumatoidná is the Slovak adjective form referring to rheumatoid. It is most commonly associated with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the joints. In rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, leading to inflammation and damage. This inflammation typically affects the lining of the joints, causing swelling, pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. While joints are the primary target, rheumatoid arthritis can also affect other organs such as the skin, eyes, lungs, heart, and blood vessels.

The term "reumatoidná" can also be used in other contexts related to rheumatic diseases or conditions exhibiting rheumatoid characteristics. However, its most prevalent usage in a medical context refers specifically to rheumatoid arthritis. Diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis usually involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, blood tests (looking for specific antibodies like rheumatoid factor and anti-CCP antibodies), and imaging studies (such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI) to assess joint inflammation and damage. Treatment aims to manage symptoms, reduce inflammation, prevent joint destruction, and improve the patient's quality of life. This often includes medications like disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), biologics, pain relievers, and lifestyle modifications, including physical and occupational therapy.
