Returprosenter

Returprosenter is a term used in logistics, retail, and manufacturing to describe the share of goods that are returned by customers relative to the number of units sold in a given period, channel, or product category. The term is Norwegian, combining retur (return) and prosenter (percentages). It functions as a key performance indicator for reverse logistics, product quality, and customer satisfaction.

The basic calculation is return rate = (returned units / sold units) × 100. Some organizations also report a value-based measure: return value percentage = (monetary value of returns / total revenue from sold goods) × 100. Data come from sales and returns systems, and accuracy depends on consistent categorization of returns by reason, channel, and timing.

Returprosenter are influenced by promotions, seasonality, sizing issues, and defects, and they interact with policy elements such as restocking fees and return windows. They may also be distorted by fraud or changes in return policies.

Applications include informing inventory and pricing decisions, planning reverse logistics capacity, and evaluating supplier performance. For example, a retailer selling 5,000 units with 300 returns has a return rate of 6 percent; if most returns are saleable, the inventory impact is smaller than if returns are unsellable.
