Responsekoder, often referred to as response codes or HTTP status codes, are standardized numerical and textual representations used in web communication to indicate the outcome of a request made to a server. These codes are part of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and are essential for debugging, troubleshooting, and understanding the status of web requests.

The most commonly used response codes fall into five categories: informational, success, redirection, client errors, and server errors. Informational codes (1xx) indicate that the request was received but processing is ongoing, such as code 100 (Continue) or 101 (Switching Protocols). Success codes (2xx) signify a successful request, including 200 (OK), which confirms a successful retrieval of a resource, and 204 (No Content), indicating successful processing without a response body.

Redirection codes (3xx) are used when the requested resource has moved, such as 301 (Moved Permanently) or 302 (Found), which redirect clients to a new URL. Client error codes (4xx) indicate problems with the client's request, like 404 (Not Found) when a resource is missing or 403 (Forbidden) when access is denied. Server error codes (5xx) denote issues on the server side, such as 500 (Internal Server Error) or 503 (Service Unavailable), which may require server maintenance.

Response codes are widely used in web development, APIs, and network diagnostics to ensure efficient communication between clients and servers. They provide clear feedback, enabling developers to implement appropriate actions, such as retrying failed requests or updating user interfaces to reflect current statuses. Understanding and utilizing these codes effectively is crucial for maintaining robust and reliable web applications.
