Reservuaario

Reservuaario is a term used in Finnish technical vocabulary to describe a reservoir or storage facility for liquids, including water, fuels, or chemicals. The concept covers both large-scale infrastructure such as municipal reservoirs and industrial storage tanks. The primary purpose is to store a liquid under controlled conditions to ensure a stable supply, regulate pressure, or provide a buffer during fluctuations in demand or production.

Design and construction vary with the stored substance and site. Common configurations include elevated tanks that create gravity-fed distribution, underground or above-ground storage tanks, and open or closed reservoirs. Key components are inlet and outlet piping, level or volume sensors, overflow and venting systems, access hatches, and safety containment measures. Materials are selected for chemical compatibility, structural strength, and corrosion resistance.

Operations involve monitoring liquid level, temperature, and quality, as well as routine maintenance such as inspection, coating or lining, leak detection, and cleaning. Environmental and safety requirements focus on spill prevention, secondary containment, ventilation where applicable, and compliance with local codes and standards. In water utilities, reservuaario systems contribute to resilience by decoupling variable demand from supply.
