Reningsverken
Reningsverken are wastewater treatment facilities that process sewage and industrial effluent to remove contaminants before the water is discharged back to the environment. They form a central part of municipal water infrastructure and are designed to protect public health and aquatic ecosystems by reducing organic matter, suspended solids, nutrients and pathogens.
A typical reningsverk operates through several stages. Preliminary treatment screens solids and removes grit to protect
Sludge produced during treatment is subjected to thickening, stabilization and dewatering. Many reningsverken use anaerobic digestion
Operations are regulated by national and local authorities and guided by national and European water protection
