Relayhyökkäykset, also known as relay attacks or man-in-the-middle attacks in some contexts, are a type of cyberattack that involves an intermediary intercepting and forwarding communications between two parties who believe they are communicating directly with each other. The attacker positions themselves in the communication path, acting as a relay for the messages. This allows the attacker to eavesdrop on the conversation, modify the messages, or impersonate one or both of the communicating parties.

These attacks are often employed in scenarios involving wireless communication protocols, such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, where devices may automatically connect or establish connections with nearby devices. For instance, a relay attack could be used to gain unauthorized access to a device or service by relaying authentication credentials. The attacker might trick a user's device into thinking it's communicating with a legitimate access point or peripheral, while in reality, the attacker's device is relaying the data to the genuine target.
