Relatores (singular: relator) is a term used in legal and administrative systems of some Romance-language jurisdictions, most notably Portugal and Brazil. The word derives from the Latin relator, meaning “one who relates or reports.” In English contexts, the equivalent role is often called a rapporteur. Relatores are officials or specialists charged with preparing a formal report, assessment, or opinion on a matter assigned to them.

In the judiciary, the relator is typically a judge or magistrate designated to examine a case, gather the relevant facts, analyze the applicable law, and draft a report or opinion for consideration by the court. The relator’s report often outlines the issues, summarizes evidence, cites authorities, and presents a recommended ruling or vote.
