Rekuttering

Rekuttering is a term used in manufacturing and logistics to describe the reconstitution or reassembly of kits of components that were previously separated or repurposed. It stems from the practice of kitting, in which materials needed for a production step or a customer order are grouped together in advance. Rekitting occurs when a kit is split for processing and later needs to be reassembled, when returned or salvaged components must be recombined into a new kit, or when a kit configuration is updated to reflect changes in the bill of materials or product variants.

In practice, rekitting involves identifying the correct items, verifying lot and serial numbers, and re-packaging the components into the target kit according to standard work instructions. Barcoding or RFID may be used to maintain accurate kit- and component-level inventory data, and ERP or warehouse management systems track kit configurations at rest and in motion. The goal is to minimize handling, reduce travel time, and preserve inventory accuracy.

Common applications include automotive assembly lines, electronics manufacturing, and third-party contract manufacturing, where product configurations change frequently or multiple SKUs share common component sets. Risks include mislabeling, incorrect component substitutions, and configuration drift; mitigations include clear standard operating procedures, frequent cycle counting, and integrated barcoding.
