Reizpunkt

Reizpunkt is a term used in German-language scientific writing to denote a specific location at which a stimulus is applied in order to elicit a physiological, behavioral, or perceptual response. The concept is broad and can refer to anatomical sites such as a skin location corresponding to a sensory receptor field, a nerve terminal region, or a muscle area used in examination or therapy, as well as to abstract points in experimental setups.

In physiology and neuroscience, Reizpunkte are often discussed in relation to thresholds—the minimal intensity, duration, or quality of a stimulus required to produce a detectable response at that point. Researchers may map Reizpunkte to understand somatosensory representation, receptor density, or neural coding. Experimental approaches include calibrated mechanical, thermal, or electrical stimulation and recording responses from peripheral nerves or cortical areas.

Clinically, the term can appear in discussions of tender or irritable tissue regions. In some contexts Reizpunkte are described similarly to trigger points, although Triggerpunkt is the more common term in German for clinically relevant muscle irritability. Reizpunkte may be used to indicate sites showing heightened sensitivity or abnormal responses under examination or treatment.
