Reititysdata

Reititysdata is a term used in Finnish information technology and telecommunications to refer to data used to determine the paths that data packets follow through a network. It encompasses information about network topology, link metrics, routing policies, address assignments, and related configuration that affects how packets are forwarded. In practice, reititysdata is stored in routing tables on routers and in forwarding databases, and it is exchanged between devices via routing protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, and BGP, or configured statically by network operators. The data include IP prefixes, next-hop addresses, route metrics, administrative distances, and policy statements, and it is maintained in two planes: the control plane, where routing decisions are computed, and the data plane, where forwarding decisions are implemented.

Collection and maintenance rely on dynamic routing protocols that advertise reachability and topology changes, along with static configurations and network management systems. Data is often organized into routing information bases (RIB) and forwarding information bases (FIB). Standards bodies and vendor implementations define protocol-specific data representations, for example NLRI in BGP or LSPs in IS-IS/OSPF.

Applications of reititysdata include dynamic path establishment, traffic engineering, failover, and capacity planning. Challenges include data accuracy, synchronization between control and forwarding planes, scalability, and security concerns such as route leaks and spoofing. Proper governance, authentication, and validation mechanisms are used to mitigate risks.
