Refleksdrevne, or reflex-driven systems, describe agents whose behavior is primarily produced by automatic, stimulus-driven responses rather than deliberate planning. The term combines the Danish words refleks (reflex) and drevet (driven) and is used in neuroscience, robotics, and cognitive science to mark a focus on rapid, low-latency action selection.

In biology, reflex-driven mechanisms are exemplified by reflex arcs and spinal circuits that generate movements without conscious mediation. Examples include withdrawal from painful stimuli, the knee-jerk reflex, and startle responses. Central pattern generators provide rhythmic actions such as walking, while sensory feedback continuously modulates these actions to maintain stability.

In engineering, reflex-driven or reactive architectures emphasize fast, robust behavior in uncertain environments. Classic examples include subsumption architecture and behavior-based robotics, where layered reflexes operate concurrently to achieve goals. Deliberative planning can be present as a higher-level layer, but the core control loops remain reflex-like and fast.

Design considerations include ensuring safe interactions, preventing conflicting reflexes, and managing sensor latency. Modular designs allow reflexes to be added or replaced without reworking the entire system. Hybrid approaches seek to combine the reliability of reflex-driven control with the flexibility of symbolic or model-based planning.

Applications span autonomous robotics, prosthetic control, and animation, where quick responses and resilience to noise are valued. In research, reflex-driven paradigms are analyzed to understand how simple neural circuits produce complex behavior and how such principles can inform artificial systems.
