Reduktionsförhållande is a Swedish term that translates to "reduction ratio" in English. It is commonly used in technical contexts, particularly in engineering and manufacturing, to describe the relationship between two quantities where one is a scaled-down version of the other. This concept is fundamental in areas such as gear trains, mechanical linkages, and scale models.

In a gear train, the reduktionsförhållande indicates how much the output speed is reduced compared to the input speed. For example, a reduktionsförhållande of 2:1 means that the output shaft rotates at half the speed of the input shaft. This is achieved by using gears with different numbers of teeth. The ratio is calculated by dividing the number of teeth on the driven gear by the number of teeth on the driving gear. A higher reduktionsförhållande results in a greater reduction in speed but a corresponding increase in torque.
