Recommenderen

Recommenderen is a Dutch verb meaning to recommend or to advise someone to choose a course of action, a product, or a service. It is a loanword from the English verb to recommend, and it has entered Dutch primarily through business, marketing, and information-technology language. In standard Dutch, however, aanbevelen remains the common, normative verb for giving a recommendation; daardoor wordt recommenderen often regarded as an anglicism and is most commonly found in corporate jargon, marketing texts, and IT contexts.

Usage in practice tends to mirror English phrasing, particularly when referring to suggesting products, content, or actions within commercial or technical settings. In many cases, Dutch writers and speakers prefer aanbevelen or adviseren in formal contexts, while recommenderen appears in more specialized or stylistic language. In technology and e-commerce, the concept is frequently expressed with the related noun recommendersysteem or the English term “recommender system,” describing algorithms that suggest items to users based on behavior, preferences, or similarities.
