Reamplified

Reamplified is a term used in audio engineering and music production to describe the process of sending an already recorded audio signal through a different amplifier or amplifier simulation than was originally used. This technique allows for the re-coloring and re-shaping of a sound after it has been captured. It is often employed when a musician or producer is not satisfied with the tone of the original recording, or when they wish to experiment with different sonic textures.

The reamplification process typically involves sending the recorded audio signal from a playback device (like a digital audio workstation or a tape machine) back out into a physical amplifier or an amplifier modeling plugin. This signal is then re-recorded, effectively capturing the new tonal characteristics imparted by the second amplification stage. This can be done with electric guitar signals, bass guitar signals, or even vocals and other instruments to achieve unique effects.

Common reasons for reamplifying include achieving a different overdrive or distortion character, adding the specific tonal qualities of a vintage amplifier, or simply exploring creative sonic possibilities. It allows for a degree of flexibility and experimentation that might not be possible during the initial recording session. The term "re-amping" is also frequently used interchangeably with reamplified.
