Realismist is a term used to describe adherents of realism as a guiding principle across disciplines, including philosophy, art, literature, and political science. It denotes a pragmatic, evidence-based orientation that emphasizes the existence of a real, determinate world and the constraints of the social and political order. Realismists typically prioritize accurate description over ideological uplift and argue that beliefs about the world should be grounded in observation, experience, and coherent inference rather than wishful thinking.

In philosophy and epistemology, realismists defend a form of realism that rejects excessive skepticism about the knowability of the external world. They may endorse scientific realism or common-sense realism, arguing that objects and causal relations persist independently of our opinions and theories.

In art and literature, realismists seek faithful depictions of ordinary life, often concentrating on everyday labor, poverty, and socially marginalized populations. They eschew romanticization and melodrama in favor of verisimilitude and social critique.

In political science, realismists align with the realist tradition, stressing state sovereignty, balance of power, and national interest in an anarchic international system. They tend to be skeptical of utopian or moralistic interventions and emphasize causal constraints, national security, and practical diplomacy.
