Raumati

Raumati is a locality on the Kapiti Coast in the Wellington Region of New Zealand's North Island. It comprises two adjacent settlements, Raumati Beach and Raumati South, which lie along the Tasman Sea coast. The area sits between Paraparaumu to the south and Waikanae to the north, and forms part of the wider Paraparaumu–Kapiti urban area.

Raumati Beach is known for its long sandy shoreline, a coastal promenade, and a small shopping precinct along State Highway 1 known as Raumati Village. Raumati South is primarily residential, with parks, schools, and local amenities. The Kapiti Coast District Council administers the locality within the Wellington Region.

Transport and facilities: The Kapiti Line railway serves the area with access to Paraparaumu and Waikanae stations, and State Highway 1 runs through Raumati Village. Primary education providers include Raumati Beach School and Raumati South School; higher education facilities are located in nearby Paraparaumu and Waikanae.

History and name: The name Raumati is Māori in origin, and the area was traditionally inhabited by Māori before European settlement in the 19th century. European settlement and subsequent development transformed the locale from rural farmland to a coastal residential community in the 20th century. The two settlements are commonly referred to together as Raumati.

Nature and recreation: The coastline supports beaches, dunes and coastal paths, while nearby Kapiti Island Reserve and other natural areas provide birdlife and wildlife considerations for visitors and residents.
