Ratsastusajokilpailu

Ratsastusajokilpailu, commonly known in English as harness racing or trotting, is a form of horse racing where a horse either pulls a two-wheeled cart (sulky) or carries a driver on its back. The horses are typically of a specific breed, such as the Standardbred, and are trained to race at a trot or a pace. In a trot, the horse moves its legs in diagonal pairs, while in a pace, the horse moves its legs on the same side of the body in unison.

The race is contested by drivers who sit in the sulky or on the horse's back and urge their mount forward. The objective is to be the first to cross the finish line. Races are typically held on a flat, oval track, with distances varying but often around 1,600 meters. There are strict rules regarding the gait of the horse; if a horse breaks into a gallop, it may incur a penalty or be disqualified.

Harness racing has a long history, with origins dating back to the 19th century. It is popular in many parts of the world, including North America, Europe, and Australia. Betting is a significant aspect of the sport in many regions, with various wagering options available to spectators. The training and care of the horses are highly specialized, focusing on developing both their speed and their ability to maintain the required gait under race conditions.
