Rasvanerottimissa

Rasvanerottimissa is a traditional Finnish bird hunt that dates back to the early 20th century. The hunt, also known as "anger patrol," was a unique and traditional method of hunting geese and other waterfowl. During the hunt, participants would hide in a boat on the frozen lake or river, remaining motionless and silent, while waiting for the birds to fly overhead.

The name "Rasvanerottimissa" can be translated to "fat aút patrol" or "fat bird patrol" in English. This refers to the traditional practice of hunting geese, which were considered a delicacy in Finnish cuisine during the early 20th century. Geese were valued for their fat, which was used for cooking and providing energy, especially during the harsh winters.

Rasvanerottimissa involved a coordinated effort between the hunters, who would work together as a team to sneak up on the birds. The hunters would use ear-plugs to muffle their breathing, and would stay completely still while waiting for the birds to land. Once the birds were within reach, the hunters would quickly move in to gather as many birds as possible.
