The workflow typically involves collecting data from databases, data warehouses, data lakes, or external APIs; transforming and aggregating data; and applying templates or layouts to present findings clearly. Outputs may be static documents such as PDFs or Excel files, or dynamic dashboards, depending on stakeholder needs and automation capabilities.

Methods and technologies range from batch processing to real-time or scheduled report generation, and from ad hoc queries to fully automated pipelines. Tools include reporting suites (for example JasperReports or Crystal Reports) and business intelligence platforms (such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker). Scripting and programming languages like SQL and Python are commonly used for data preparation, while output formats include PDF, HTML, Excel, and interactive dashboards.
