Raportite is a fictional mineral name used in theoretical geology texts and science fiction narratives to illustrate mineral classification and metamorphic processes. It is not known to occur in nature as of current scientific literature.

The name is derived from the hypothetical geologist Dr. L. Rapport, who appears in teaching examples as a source of illustrative mineral species.

Chemical composition and structure: Raportite is described as a phosphate mineral with the general formula AB(PO4)2, where A and B represent interchangeable metal cations (for example Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe2+). The crystal structure is said to be orthorhombic or tetragonal in different models, forming networks of PO4 tetrahedra linked to metal layers.

Occurrence and environments: In the fictional setting, raportite forms during high-temperature metamorphism in subduction-zone belts or hydrothermal systems, commonly associated with quartz, fluorapatite, and sillimanite.

Physical properties and uses: In the hypothetical profile, raportite has a Mohs hardness of 5–6, a density of about 3.0–3.6 g/cm3, and a vitreous luster. It is used in teaching to illustrate solid-solution and phase equilibria and, in some narratives, as a decorative or collector mineral.
