Vivek Ranadivé is an Indian-American entrepreneur and technology executive known for founding TIBCO Software and for his ownership of the Sacramento Kings, an NBA franchise. He has been a prominent advocate for the use of real-time data analytics and streaming technologies to drive business and sports decision making.

Early life and education

Ranadivé was born in Mumbai, India, and pursued engineering studies at the University of Mumbai, earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He later moved to the United States, where he earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He became a naturalized American citizen and developed a career at the intersection of software and data analytics.

Career

Ranadivé co-founded TIBCO Software, a company that specializes in middleware and real-time data processing, and helped grow it into a major provider of enterprise integration and event-driven platforms. He served in leadership roles over many years, guiding the company through expansion in real-time analytics and data networks. In 2013, Ranadivé led a group that purchased the Sacramento Kings from the Maloof family, becoming the franchise’s chairman and controlling owner. Under his ownership, the team emphasized technology-driven fan engagement, data analytics, and modernization, including the move to the Golden 1 Center in 2016. Beyond business and sports, Ranadivé has pursued philanthropy and technology investment initiatives, promoting the broader application of streaming data and real-time enterprise concepts across industries.
