Rallar
Rallar is a term used in Swedish and Norwegian to denote a railway construction worker. The occupation emerged during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period of rapid rail expansion in Scandinavia, especially in the northern regions where lines such as the ore railways were built. Rallare were responsible for tasks including clearing terrain, building track beds, laying rails, and constructing bridges and tunnels. They often worked in challenging and remote environments, living in temporary camps near the work sites and traveling long distances to and from the job. Conditions were demanding and wages varied; the work required physical endurance and technical skill.
The rallare left a lasting imprint on regional industrial history. The term is preserved in historical writings,
Notes: The word rallar as a noun is distinct from the Spanish verb rallar, meaning to grate
