Rakien

Rakien is a fictional region and political entity in a contemporary fantasy setting. It is depicted as an archipelago off the northern coast of the continent of Veridia, with a rugged coastline, pine forests, and volcanic highlands on several islands.

The archipelago comprises about sixty inhabited islands and numerous islets. The core is the volcanic main island Rak, surrounded by reefs and sheltered bays that support a mixed economy of fishing, trade, and crafts.

Historically, Rakien emerges in chronicles as a collection of coastal communities that gradually formed a loose federation. A formal constitution redirected authority to a ceremonial monarch and an elected legislature in the mid- to late-renaissance period.

The state is a constitutional monarchy with a bicameral parliament: the Senate of Coasts and the House of Isles. The monarch's role is largely ceremonial while a prime minister directs government policy.

In fiction, Rakien is a setting for maritime trade, political drama, and environmental themes. Notable landmarks include the Sail Gate, Old Docks, and the Sky Archipelago.
