Rainwood

Rainwood is a town and municipality in the western coastal region of Northmere, a fictional country. It lies along the Rainwood River and Rainwood Bay, and is known for its frequent rainfall and forested surroundings. The area covers about 38 square kilometers and features a mix of urban, suburban, and rural landscapes. The climate is temperate maritime, with cool, wet winters and mild summers.

Rainwood’s history begins in the early 18th century when timber merchants established mills along the river. The town grew as a local trade hub and center for forestry, and industry diversified in the mid-20th century to include light manufacturing and services. The population as of the latest census is roughly 12,500, with families tracing roots in the region and communities of recent immigrants. The town is governed by a mayor and a nine-member town council.

The economy centers on forestry and agriculture, supplemented by small manufacturing, logistics, and tourism. Visitors are drawn to the Rainwood Forest Reserve, the historic Old Mill Bridge, and scenic coastal paths. Rainwood hosts an annual Rain Festival that highlights local crafts, music, and rainwater harvesting initiatives.

Education includes two primary schools and one secondary school. Transportation connections comprise a coastal highway, a regional rail line, and a small harbor that serves fishing and leisure craft. Environmental policy emphasizes watershed protection, reforestation, and sustainable tourism. Rainwood presents a compact, pedestrian-friendly community with a strong emphasis on conserving its rainy, forested character.
