Rabanne refers to the fashion house founded by the Spanish-born designer Paco Rabanne. The brand is noted for its futuristic, avant-garde approach to fashion, often using unconventional materials such as metal, plastic, and chainmail to create sculptural garments. This experimental aesthetic helped redefine couture in the 1960s and influenced later explorations of materials and form in fashion.

Paco Rabanne, born Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo in 1934, established the Paris-based house in 1966. The label quickly gained attention for its groundbreaking designs, including metal and modular constructions that challenged traditional silhouettes and construction methods. Rabanne’s work bridged fashion and art, earning a place in discussions of postwar, space-age aesthetics and conceptual couture.

In addition to clothing, the Rabanne brand has a long-running fragrance division. The first Rabanne fragrance, Calandre, appeared in 1969, beginning a portfolio that would expand significantly over the decades. Contemporary fragrance successes associated with the brand include 1 Million (launched in 2008) and Lady Million (2010), which helped extend Rabanne’s reach beyond clothing into mainstream consumer products.

Today, the Rabanne name remains active in fashion and fragrance, continuing the house’s legacy of experimental design and iconic scents. The designer passed away in 2023, but the brand’s influence persists in its continued exploration of materiality and futuristic styling, maintaining a notable place in both fashion history and fragrance culture.
