RTU curing systems, referred to in Dutch as RTUcuringsystemen, are process-control configurations that employ remote terminal units (RTUs) to regulate curing processes across industrial settings. They integrate field sensors, actuators, and communication networks to monitor conditions such as temperature, humidity, moisture, or chemical state and to execute control actions that maintain target cure profiles. The aim is to ensure material properties, repeatability, and energy efficiency.

Key components include the RTU itself, field sensors (temperature, humidity, moisture, gas), actuators (heaters, coolers, humidifiers, valves), controllers, an HMI, and a communications backbone (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870-5, or IP-based protocols). Data logging and alarming features support traceability and fault management.

Operation typically involves measuring current curing conditions, comparing them to predefined setpoints, and adjusting heat input, humidity, or airflow accordingly. Controllers may implement simple on/off control or more advanced PID loops, with scheduling to match curing cycles. Edge processing in the RTU enables local decision-making even during network outages, while centralized SCADA or MES systems provide broader oversight and reporting.

Applications span concrete curing, polymer and composite resin curing, wood or ceramic processes, and adhesive curing in manufacturing. Benefits include improved product quality and consistency, reduced energy consumption, and enhanced process visibility. Challenges include ensuring robust field connections, cyber-security, calibration of sensors, and integration with existing automation architectures.
