There are two main types of RFID tags: passive and active. Passive tags do not have their own power source and rely on the energy from the RFID reader to transmit data. They are generally less expensive and have a shorter read range. Active tags contain a battery and can transmit data on their own, allowing for longer read ranges and the ability to store more information.

RFID technology has a wide range of applications. In retail, it is used for inventory management, preventing stockouts, and improving checkout speed. In logistics and supply chain management, RFID tags enable real-time tracking of goods, enhancing efficiency and visibility. They are also used in access control systems, animal tracking, and even in electronic passports. The data stored on an RFID tag can vary from a simple serial number to more complex product information. The technology offers a non-line-of-sight reading capability, meaning tags can be read even if they are not directly visible to the reader, making it a versatile identification solution.
