RFIDbased refers to systems that rely on radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology to identify and track objects and manage associated data. In RFIDbased systems, tags contain data and respond to interrogation by readers, enabling automated data capture without requiring line-of-sight.

Core components are tags, readers, antennas, middleware, and back-end databases. Tags store data on a microchip connected to an antenna; passive tags are powered by the reader’s field, while active tags have their own power source. Readers emit radio waves, receive tag responses, and forward data to software systems.

RFIDbased deployments vary by frequency and standard. Common ranges include LF, HF, UHF, and microwave. Standards such as ISO/IEC 14443 and 15693 cover contactless cards, while EPC Gen 2 (ISO/IEC 18000-6C) applies to many UHF tags. Privacy and security features, including encryption and authentication, are increasingly emphasized.

Applications span supply chains, inventory management, access control, asset tracking, ticketing, toll collection, and healthcare. RFIDbased systems can improve accuracy and throughput, but performance depends on environment; metal or liquids can affect readings, and bulk tag reads require anti-collision handling.

Advantages include rapid data capture, reduced manual entry, and better visibility. Challenges include tag cost, environmental effects, interference, privacy concerns, and security risks such as cloning or eavesdropping. Deployment often requires integration with IT systems and attention to data governance and regulatory compliance.

Future developments focus on stronger on-tag security, flexible read/write capabilities, improved analytics, and tighter integration with IoT, ERP, and cloud platforms. Ongoing standardization and interoperability efforts aim to simplify multi-vendor deployments and expand the use of RFIDbased solutions across industries.
