REACHUmweltstandards refers to the environmental criteria embedded in the European Union's REACH regulation, used as a descriptive label for the environmental data requirements, risk assessment practices, and compliance obligations that arise under REACH. It is not a separate legal instrument, but a concept describing how REACH aims to protect the environment through chemical registration and risk management.

At the core, REACH (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006) requires the registration of most chemical substances manufactured or imported into the EU above one tonne per year, with evaluation, and, for substances of very high concern (SVHC), restrictions or authorisation. Environmental considerations are integrated through requirements for environmental fate and effects data, persistence, bioaccumulation, aquatic toxicity, and overall exposure assessment.

Manufacturers and importers must prepare information like chemical identity, uses, exposure scenarios, and risk assessments. Chemical Safety Reports summarize how environmental risks are controlled, and exposure scenarios describe safe use conditions across the life cycle. Data-sharing and voluntary testing programs are encouraged to minimize animal testing.

Impact on industry and environment: REACHUmweltstandards promote substitution of hazardous substances where feasible, encourage safer alternatives and greener processes, and increase supply-chain transparency about environmental risks.

Limitations and critiques include data gaps for some substances, high compliance costs, and uneven enforcement across member states. Critics note that environmental endpoints in some cases rely on modeling data rather than measured results.
