Quinkana
Quinkana is a genus of extinct crocodilians that lived in Australia during the Pleistocene epoch. The name Quinkana is derived from the Aboriginal word for "stone crocodile." These ancient reptiles are known from fossil remains found in Queensland, Australia. Quinkana was a large, terrestrial (land-dwelling) crocodilian, which is unusual for most crocodilians that are primarily aquatic. Its skull morphology suggests it was adapted for a terrestrial lifestyle and likely preyed on land animals. Unlike modern crocodiles which have teeth suited for grasping and tearing, Quinkana possessed more robust, blunt teeth that may have been used for crushing bones. Fossil evidence indicates that Quinkana was a formidable predator in its environment, coexisting with other megafauna such as marsupials like *Diprotodon*. The exact reasons for its extinction are not fully understood, but it is believed to have succumbed to environmental changes and possibly competition with other predators. The discovery of Quinkana has significantly contributed to our understanding of Australia's prehistoric fauna and the evolutionary diversity of crocodilians.
