Quezonian

Quezonian is an informal demonym used to refer to a person associated with Quezon, a province in the Philippines, or, less commonly, with Quezon City in Metro Manila. The term is not an official designation, and its usage varies in English-language writing. In many contexts, more specific descriptors based on place are preferred.

Etymology and scope: The form Quezonian derives from the name Quezon, itself linked to Manuel L. Quezon, a key historical figure in the Philippines. In Filipino usage, residents of Quezon Province are typically described as Quezonense; in English, the label Quezonian appears but is not standardized and may be interpreted as referencing either the province or the city, depending on context.

Geography and history: Quezon Province lies in the CALABARZON region on eastern Luzon. It was formerly known as Tayabas Province until 1946, when it was renamed in honor of Manuel L. Quezon. The provincial capital is Lucena. The Quezonian label, when used, most often denotes people with ties to the province and its municipalities rather than to any single urban area.

Quezon City note: Quezon City is a separate metropolis within Metro Manila and is not coterminous with Quezon Province. Residents are more commonly described by the city name (Quezon City residents) or simply as Filipinos from Quezon City. The term Quezonian, therefore, is best understood as an informal, occasionally ambiguous reference to people connected with the Quezon region, not a formal demonym.
